Going Higher as the Year Narrows Down to the End

As I sit in the presence of the Lord today, I can feel the weight of December ending, not in a negative way, but in its fullness. There is the rush, the sense that there is so much to do and so little time to do it. I know I am not the only one feeling this, and I think women, especially wives and mothers, carry this weight in a particular way.

December is actually the most joyful month in our home. It is our favorite time of the year. Christmas fills our house with warmth and meaning, and my birthday and the children’s birthdays all fall within this same month. It is a season overflowing with joy, peace, and gratitude. And yet, it is also the month where everything feels intensified.

There is the wrapping up of the year, the shifting and rearranging happening in the house, and the quiet pressure to finish what was started and prepare for what is coming. If you work outside the home, there may be goals or deadlines still asking for your attention. Everywhere you look, something is calling your name.

This morning, as a wife and a mother, I found myself not even knowing exactly what kind of ministering I needed. I just knew I needed help. I needed the Holy Spirit.

What brought me peace as I sat with the Lord was the realization that everything I need to steward this remaining stretch of the year well is already available to me. Nothing is missing. Nothing is being withheld. The strength, the wisdom, the clarity, and the grace are all present. But I also sensed that it requires something from me.

Not striving. Not pressure. But partnership.

Maybe it looks like waking up earlier to seek His face. Maybe it means creating more intentional space to sit with Him before the day begins. Because He is the foundation. He is the source of my strength, my time, my clarity, and my capacity.

I realized that I do not want to be surprised by my days. I am asking the Holy Spirit to help me see them before I step into them, to order them, to guide them, and to reinforce me with what I will need to navigate not just today, but the days that remain in this year.

The Scripture that keeps returning to my heart is this:

“Teach us to number our days, that we may apply wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)

That has become my prayer.

I believe this reflection may be for another woman too. Another wife. Another mother. Another woman tending to her home. Perhaps this season does not require you to do more, but to go higher.

And higher looks different for each of us. For some, it may look like deeper sacrifice. For others, earlier mornings with God. For some, it may mean postponing certain things until next year so that what needs attention now is cared for properly. Higher may even look like saying no to others so you can say yes to what has been entrusted to you, your home, your family, your first assignment.

Prayer

This is my prayer for us as the year narrows down to the end.

Lord, lift our eyes in these remaining days. Lift us above pressure, distraction, and urgency, and anchor us in clarity, peace, and wisdom.

Father, teach us how to partner with You in accomplishing what You have already done. Order our steps. Redeem our time. Strengthen our inner life so our homes are led from rest, not depletion.

Lord, lead us as we steward these last days well. Let nothing be wasted. Let nothing be rushed. Let our homes bear the fruit of alignment.

Father, we thank You that it is already done. The grace is sufficient. The wisdom is available. The fruit is forming. We receive what You have prepared and walk in agreement with You concerning it.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

As the year comes into focus at its end, where is the Holy Spirit inviting you to go higher?

Is it in how you order your days, what you release, or what you choose to protect in this remaining time?

Sit with that question and let Him answer you.

Praying with you,

Tamminn
